This page explains how the figures on the site are calculated. All the data comes from f1db.
The site shows two totals. "Points at the time" are the points actually scored during each season, using that year's scoring system. "Current scoring" recalculates the same results with today's system. For a season still in progress, the two totals are identical.
Dominance measures the share of the maximum possible points that a driver actually obtained in a season. It makes it possible to compare eras that did not use the same scoring system or the same number of races.
| Item | Value used |
|---|---|
| Race win | 25 |
| Fastest lap | 1 point from 2019 to 2024, not counted in 2025 and 2026 |
| Sprint | 8 points per sprint, 3 points in 2021 |
A driver's average dominance is the average of his season-by-season dominance figures. For a season still in progress, only the races already run are counted.
| Figure | What is counted |
|---|---|
| Grands Prix | Races in which the driver took the start. |
| Retirements | Races not finished because of a mechanical problem or an accident. Disqualifications and non-starters are not counted. |
| Pole position | The fastest driver in qualifying. |
| Places gained | Starting position minus finishing position. |
| Championship margin | The points gap to the second driver in the standings, or to the champion for the other drivers. |
| Titles | Only completed seasons are counted. |
Laps led do not appear in the database used, so they are not shown. The breakdown of retirements by cause relies on the reason given by f1db and may contain small errors.
After each Grand Prix, the seasons in progress and the pages that depend on them are recalculated. Completed seasons only change if f1db corrects a figure.
